Beauty Remains
Beauty is hard work.
Beauty is striving for quality
Beauty is digging deeper than most would to find a nugget of TRUTH
Beauty is easily distinguished from the ugly.
Beauty is something we all recognize, but don’t always acknowledge
Beauty is terrifying.
Beauty is history.
Beauty appreciates today, yesterday, and tomorrow
Beauty tells us what we already knew in a new way
Beauty is something we may forget at times, but when it returns, we’re either relieved, or alarmed.
Beauty is appreciating what we have, and then letting it go when necessary.
It can be found in all art forms: but we’ll be focusing on music, painting & sculpture, graphic design, and cinema.
There’s a concept from screenwriter Jeffrey Schechter (author of My Story Can Beat Up Your Story) that says the hero of a story always begins as an innocent, but becomes a magician by the end. He begins his journey alone, not sure what to do or how he will reach his goal, but over time, after trial and error, success and failure, he hones a skill such that once he faces his final challenge, he makes it look easy.
That magician level of skill is the kind we’ll be looking at, and we will continue to challenge our perceptions of how far that beauty can go.
So here’s our first example. YouTube singing sensation Laufey with her newly released rendition of Eartha Kitt’s “Santa, Baby.” (1953)
I literally YouTube’d “2024 Jazz,” and a playlist showed up with Laufey at the top of it.
Note: Though this song is originally form the 50’s, Laufey has a voice reminiscent of the crooning of the 40’s. Enjoy.
Oh, and look out for Bill Murray too…
